For his Summergarden program, Elliot
was commissioned to write, present and premiere on July 17th, Before, Now, & After, and the recently composed and recorded, Efflorescence.
Elliot writes, Before, Now, & After was composed especially for Summergarden. To me, MoMA embraces artistic exploration that then becomes the traditions of today; it preserves and documents, while remaining vital and engaged with the present. The same values have been integral to my growth as a musician. Appreciating those who innovated before us while staying true to one’s own artistic voice is the inspiration for this piece.
